1. Who we are
This website, wethepeoplegather.com, is run by Edward Scarlett-Watts on behalf of the We The People movement. Edward is responsible for how your personal data is handled (the "data controller") and is the person to contact about data protection.
If you have any questions about this policy or about your data, contact us at:
- Email: hello@wethepeoplegather.com
- Post: Board Room, 8 Lansdown, Stroud GL5 1BD
2. What we collect
When you sign up through the "I'm In" form, we collect:
- Your name and email address.
- Your village, town or city, and your county.
- A record of your consent: that you ticked the consent box, and the date and time you did.
When you visit the site, whether or not you sign up, we also collect usage data:
- The pages you view and the links and buttons you click.
- Your type of device and browser, and the site that referred you.
- Your approximate location (town or region), worked out from your IP address. We do not keep your IP address itself.
3. How we use it, and why we're allowed to
We use your sign-up details only to send you the updates, news about meetings and events, and ways to get involved that you asked for, and to understand roughly where our supporters are in the country. Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), our lawful basis for this is your consent (Article 6(1)(a)).
We use the usage data to see how the site is used and to improve it. Our lawful basis for this is our legitimate interest in running a website that works for everyone (Article 6(1)(f)). It is never used to advertise to you.
We will never sell, rent or trade your personal information.
4. Cookies
This site does not set cookies, and does not store anything else in your browser to recognise you on a later visit. That is why you won't see a cookie banner.
5. Who handles your data for us
We use a small number of service providers, who only process your data on our behalf:
- PostHog, for site analytics and our mailing list: your sign-up details and usage data are stored in PostHog's EU data centre in Frankfurt, Germany, and our emails are sent through it.
- Amazon Web Services (Amazon SES), which delivers those emails.
- GitHub (GitHub Pages), which hosts the website.
- Our team inbox, hello@wethepeoplegather.com, which receives a copy of each new sign-up so we can welcome you.
Some of these companies are based in the United States. Where your data is transferred outside the UK, it is protected by safeguards approved under UK data protection law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK–US data bridge.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your sign-up details for as long as you remain signed up. If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your data, we will remove your details from our mailing list and analytics within 30 days. Usage data that isn't linked to a sign-up is deleted automatically after a set period.
7. Your rights
Under data protection law, you have rights over your personal information, including:
- The right to withdraw consent: you can stop our emails at any time with the "Unsubscribe" link at the bottom of every email we send, or by emailing us.
- The right of access: you can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- The right to rectification: you can ask us to correct anything that's wrong.
- The right to erasure: you can ask us to delete your personal data at any time.
- The right to object to our use of usage data.
To use any of these rights, email us at hello@wethepeoplegather.com.
8. How to complain
If you have concerns about how we collect or use your data, please contact us first using the details in section 1, so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
